More Herefordshire Circular Walks
We decided to try our closest one in Much Marcle in June 2022 and it was great. Lots of nice scenery in countryside I hadn't previously bothered to explore, even though it was on my doorstep. More details about our walk on the Marcle Ridge circular can be seen here.
They are also kind enough to mark any local pubs on the route maps which is a winner. So far we've got over half way through them and they have made me even more proud to live in this beautiful part of the world.
We've been in some class rural pubs and seen some weird and wonderful things. They all have had one thing in common in that we haven't seen many other people at all. We did bump into a posh older couple who were ticking off the walks like us and had a proper printed map of the Woolhope circular. We let them go on ahead of us and followed them from a distance, before realising they'd got the route completely wrong which added nearly 2 miles to our walk that day. Never trust a man in red trousers.
Below are some photos of our various Herefordshire circular walks. From being a bit scared of cows, to riverside walks on the Wye, with an Italian style church in between (that thankfully hasn't yet hit the radar of Instagram influencers).
Marcle Ridge Circular in Much Marcle (4 miles), 2022. Stunning walk with great views of the Malvern Hills. Good lunch options available at Westons Cider Mill or the Walwyn Arms in Much Marcle.
John Kyrle Circular in Ross on Wye (3 miles), 2022. A short walk along the Wye and through some fields. Enjoyed it. Ross has some good pubs. We enjoyed a pint with a view of the Wye at the Royal Hotel.
Capler Circular in Brockhampton (2 miles), 2023. This was the shortest walk but it was my favourite. It felt like walking on the Yukon or something. Absolutely beautiful.
Hoarwithy Circular (4.5 miles), 2024. Cracking walk and a really good lunch at the New Harp. There is a camp site next to the pub with canoe hire. Would be a great weekend escape.
Woolhope Circular (6.5 miles), 2024. We got a bit lost on this one, but had the best Sunday lunch of our walks so far at the Crown.
Leys Hill Circular in Kerne Bridge (2 miles), 2024. Properly scenic woodland walk. The Inn on the Wye is a great pub. The lady behind the bar was absolutely crackers, but funny. You could combine it with a visit to Goodrich Castle.
Breinton Circular in Hereford (5.5 miles), 2024. A great walk at first but not really a circular as the route takes you back the way you came. A good wander from the centre of Hereford though.
Bodenham Circular (2.5 miles), 2024. We tied this in with a visit to Bodenham Lake. Really enjoyable walk. Climbed over a fence to get down to a secret spot next to the river.
Mordiford Circular (4 miles), 2024 - The first one for baby Molly. Ended up being 5 miles as I read the map wrong. Beautiful walk through Haugh Woods, passing an amazing abandoned farmhouse.
